Hygge with the cozy magic of garden roses

What is Hygge?

As the days grow shorter and cooler, many of us turn inward, seeking warmth, comfort, and a slower pace of life. The Danish have a beautiful word for this feeling: hygge (pronounced “hoo-gah”). It’s about creating an atmosphere of cosiness and enjoying simple pleasures, surrounding yourself with beauty, and savouring little moments of calm.

One of the most natural ways to bring hygge into your home is with cut garden roses. These blooms, with their lush petals and intoxicating fragrance, are so much more than flowers. They’re an experience, one that awakens the senses and transforms a room.

Why Cut Garden Roses Feel Different

Unlike standard roses, our garden rose collection have been grown for character, fragrance, and emotion. Their ruffled petals open generously, often resembling peonies or old-world heirlooms. Many varieties carry deep, complex scents that fill a room softly, making them feel alive in a way ordinary cut flowers rarely do.

When you bring Parfum Flower roses into your home, you’re not just decorating. You’re surrounding yourself with nature’s artistry, blooms that feel handpicked from a garden, each one unique. That individuality is part of what makes them so special, and so perfect for a hygge-inspired space.

Creating Hygge with Roses

Hygge is all about atmosphere. Here are a few simple ways cut garden roses can help set the mood:

  • Soft, Warm Tones
Choose roses in shades of caramel, honey, and golden amber. These hues blend beautifully with candlelight and neutral textiles, creating a warm, calming palette.
  • Intimate Arrangements
Rather than large, formal bouquets, try placing small clusters of roses in bud vases or old jars. Scatter them through your home, a few on the bedside table, some by your reading chair, one near the kitchen window. Hygge is found in the details.
  • Pair with Natural Textures
Roses look even more striking alongside cozy elements like wool throws, wooden tables, or ceramics. Their softness contrasts beautifully with raw, tactile surfaces.
  • Fragrance as Comfort
The gentle perfume of garden roses lingers in the air, making a room feel welcoming the moment you step inside. Unlike artificial scents, it’s subtle and alive.

Roses Perfect for Hygge Homes

Some varieties from our collection are especially suited to creating that hygge feeling:

  • Caramel Antike – With her warm, golden-caramel tones and cupped garden form, this rose brings instant cosiness.
  • Romantic Antike – Layers of soft, dusky petals that open generously, adding warmth and romance to any space.
  • Golden Mustard – A unique golden-amber rose with a vintage touch, perfect for pairing with candlelight.
  • Café Latte – Famous for her mocha-latte hues and velvety petals, this rose is pure understated luxury.
  • Toffee – Rich, caramel tones that feel both modern and comforting, ideal for autumn and winter interiors.

A Little Everyday Luxury

Hygge doesn’t mean extravagance. It’s about making the everyday special. A few cut garden roses in your living room or on your dining table turn an ordinary evening into something memorable. They remind us to slow down, light a candle, pour a cup of tea, and truly enjoy the space we’re in.

At Parfum Flower Company, we believe roses are more than flowers, they’re a way of bringing beauty, comfort, and joy into everyday life. This autumn and winter, let cut garden roses be part of your hygge rituals. Whether it’s a single bloom in a vase or a softly fragrant arrangement, these special roses have a way of making a house feel like home.

Our top 5 roses for september: a blooming lineup you’ll love

September is here, and with it comes that magical in-between moment, summer’s warmth still lingers, but autumn is peeking around the corner. At Parfum Flower Company, we think there’s no better way to celebrate this golden transition than with roses that capture both freshness and romance. Our team gathered around (yes, with coffee in hand and petals on the table!) to vote on our Top 5 Roses for September and let us tell you, it was not easy. But after much passionate debate, these five beauties won our hearts.

Here are the stars of the month:

White Mojolica

Think of White Majolica as the little black dress of the rose world, timeless, chic, and always appropriate. This delicate spray rose is known for her creamy-white petals that open into clusters of soft, romantic blooms. Perfect for weddings, intimate dinner parties, or simply elevating your coffee table, White Majolica brings understated elegance wherever it goes. Bonus: she pairs beautifully with just about any other flower.

Juliet

The one and only Juliet, she’s basically a celebrity in the flower world. This David Austin Wedding Rose beauty is instantly recognisable by her warm peach-apricot tones and that signature rosette shape. Juliet is lush, graceful, and gives arrangements that “wow” factor, whether she’s the leading lady or part of a floral ensemble. Fun fact: she’s often nicknamed the “million-pound rose” because of the years of breeding it took to create her.

White Cloud

For lovers of dramatic blooms, White Cloud delivers. With her oversized, pure-white petals and billowy presence, she’s like a cloud drifting through your bouquet. Her generous size makes her an excellent choice for statement pieces, archways, or grand centrepieces. She’s fresh, modern, and unapologetically bold, just what September celebrations need.

White O’hara

Romance in a rose? That’s White O’Hara. Known for her large, creamy petals and a heavenly fragrance (seriously, this one will stop you in your tracks), she’s perfect for brides and romantics alike. Her slight blush undertones give her a soft, dreamy quality that feels almost cinematic. White O’Hara isn’t just a rose, she’s a mood.

Peony Pink

Don’t let the name fool you, Peony Pink is a rose, but she certainly brings peony vibes with her full, frilly petals and show-stopping shape. Bursting with charm, she adds a splash of fun, feminine energy to any arrangement. Her pink hue makes her the perfect antidote to those shorter September days — a little pop of sunshine in bloom form. And did we mention the fragrance? Peony Pink has the most sensational scent, making her just as delightful to the nose as she is to the eyes.

Ready to Fall in Love?

These five roses are our current obsessions, and we can’t wait to see how you use them in your floral designs this September. Whether you’re dreaming up weddings, styling events, or simply filling your home with blooms, this line-up has something for every mood and moment.

Keep your eyes peeled for our choices for Autumn, let’s get cosy!

Wedding flower trends for 2025 & why garden roses are stealing the show

With the wedding season is in full swing, one thing is clear: romantic, sensory-led floral design is taking centre stage. Couples want flowers that not only look stunning but tell a story, evoke emotion, and leave a lasting impression. Garden roses, with their vintage charm, ruffled petals, and incredible fragrance are set to be the floral icon of the year.

At Parfum Flower Company, we’ve seen a noticeable rise in demand, especially for the more fragrant varieties. Brides are asking for them more than ever, and it’s easy to see why.

1.Scent-Driven Styling

Fragrance is becoming a key element in modern floral design. Garden roses like Patience (David Austin), White O’Hara, and Yves Piaget don’t just look beautiful—they smell divine, creating a multi-sensory experience that guests won’t forget.

2. Romantic Maximalism

2025 sees a shift from minimal to more-is-more. Think lush, layered arrangements with texture and movement. With their full, multi-petalled blooms, garden roses fit perfectly into this luxurious, romantic style.
Our Meilland Jardin and Princess collections offer rich hues—from soft blush to bold berry—ideal for dramatic bouquets and statement centrepieces.

3. Vintage-Inspired Palettes

Muted tones like dusty pinks, antique peaches, and mauves are back in fashion. Roses such as Quicksand, Caramel Antike, and Westminster Abbey blend effortlessly with these palettes, adding depth and nostalgic elegance. Designers are pairing them with foraged foliage and dried elements for a timeless, modern twist.

4. Sustainable Luxury

Today’s couples care about the story behind their flowers. Garden roses grown on farms that prioritise fair working conditions and eco-friendly practices are increasingly in demand. At Parfum Flower Company, we only partner with breeders and growers who share our commitment to responsible, sustainable floriculture.

5. The Florist’s Favourite

Garden roses are quickly becoming the must-have flower for high-end weddings. Their natural beauty, fragrance, and versatility make them a dream for designers and a firm favourite with brides.
We work with world-renowned breeders like David Austin Wedding RosesMeillandPrincess Garden Roses, and WABARA to offer unique, memorable varieties for every style.

Wonderful Wabara roses from Japan

WABARA Roses

What does WABARA mean?

Wa is a Japanese cultural concept usually translated into English as “harmony”. It implies a peaceful unity and conformity within a social group, in which members prefer the continuation of a harmonious community over their personal interests. Japanese businesses encourage Wa in the workplace, with employees typically given a career for life in order to foster a strong association with their colleagues and firm. Rewards and bonuses are usually given to groups, rather than individuals, further enforcing the concept of group unity. Bara is the Japanese name for rose, Hence WABARA!

Where is the rose farm Keiji

The rose farm Keiji is where the WABARA roses are originally bred. A few miles from Kyoto.

The Kyoto area is a beautiful area in Japan. No matter if you go barefoot across tatami mats in ryokan, sip matcha in centuries-old tearooms, cycle through Arashiyama’s bamboo forest or drink convenience-store beer on the banks of the Kamo-gama, Kyoto is a city you could never get tired of. When visiting Kyoto, now you have another destination for your bucket list, rose farm Keiji

The WABARA Collection

After many years of testing in Japan and trials in Kenya at Uhuru Farms. The WABARA collection has taken the market by storm. Alexandra Farms also grows a selection of these beautiful roses and has recently introduced a beautiful spray rose called Hanna to the market. A very individual brownish colour.

WABARA roses are still relatively unknown but growing in popularity daily. From the full collection we sell a selection of the best varieties including Tsumugi, Miyabi, Miyabi Cha, Sola, Ioli, Aoi, Mikoto and Hanna. And we have just recently added a beautiful rose called WABARA Issei and isn’t she breath-taking!

A catch up with Shallima

Shallima of Lotta’s Floral Studio is deeply passionate about the WABARA rose collection. She recently collaborated on a stunning photo shoot featuring the exquisite WABARA ‘Sola’ rose, shown below.

Based in Bogotá, Colombia, Shallima works closely with Alexandra Farms on various projects and has collaborated with numerous rose breeders. To see more of her work or get in touch, please follow this link.

For this edition of Insight, Shallima spoke with Mr. Keiji Kunieda, the visionary behind the WABARA collection, to share her thoughts and inspiration.

The WABARA collection, created by Mr. Kunieda, reflects the elegance and depth of Japanese culture and aesthetics.

“These are not conventional roses; they are considered flowering plants,” writes Mr. Kunieda. “Unlike ordinary roses, WABARA varieties feature soft blooms, graceful stems, and rich fragrances. Their appearance and colour shift daily—hence, we call them ‘transitional roses’ in every sense.”

As a floral designer, I resonate deeply with this Japanese philosophy. I see the WABARA collection as timeless—roses that can be used beautifully throughout the year.

My designs are inspired by the harmony and serenity found in nature. I seek out sensitivity and imperfection as guiding elements, which in turn help express the vision of WABARA’s creator. Each arrangement becomes a tribute to the dream behind these exceptional roses.
