Few places embody this passion quite like Alexandra Farms, a boutique grower specializing in nostalgic, romantic, fresh-cut garden roses. Nestled in the fertile savanna of Bogotá, high in the Andes Mountains of Colombia, Alexandra Farms is renowned for its meticulously cultivated roses—each hand-cut, hand-graded, and hand-packed with care. The farm’s idyllic location, with warm days and cool nights, creates the perfect conditions for growing breathtakingly beautiful roses.
Recently, our Sales Manager, Pieter, had the privilege of visiting this extraordinary farm. His journey through Colombia was filled with stunning landscapes, vibrant culture, and, of course, the most enchanting roses imaginable.
A Gathering of Passionate Rose Lovers
One of the most remarkable aspects of this trip was the wonderfully eclectic group of people who came together—breeders, growers, farmers, marketers, floral designers, wholesalers, and, of course, us at Parfum Flower Company. At first glance, it may have seemed like a mix of completely different worlds, but it quickly became clear that everyone shared one powerful bond: an insatiable appetite for all things garden roses. Conversations flowed effortlessly, ideas were exchanged, and laughter was abundant. It was a gathering of true flower enthusiasts, where passion and creativity thrived.
Exploring Colombia’s Beauty
The adventure began with a day off to explore Villa de Leyva, a historic town founded in 1572, where time seems to have stood still. With its vast Plaza Mayor—the largest in South America—Pieter and Brita were captivated by its charm. Returning to their hotel, they were met with a delightful surprise: a stunning welcome bouquet from Alexandra Farms, a true testament to the farm’s warm hospitality.
A Closer Look at Alexandra Farms
The next day, Pieter and visited San Ignacio nursery by Alexandra Farms, where they admired the farm’s breath-taking roses. The visit was enriched with great company and a delicious lunch, allowing them to appreciate not just the flowers, but the people behind them.
At Finca El Jardín, they discovered even more floral wonders. In addition to Alexandra Farms’ famous garden roses, they were delighted to see other surprising varieties, including dahlias and jasmine. The visit was made even more special by a lively barbecue lunch, complete with a traditional dance performed by Alexandra Farms’ dedicated team. To top it all off, talented designers created exquisite bouquets, showcasing the farm’s gorgeous garden rose collection.
This trip was extra special as Pieter chose a very special white fragrant rose from the Princess Garden Roses collection which will be named Princess Alina after Alina Neacsa. Please note this rose is not yet available commercially but we will let you know when it is.
Discovering Bogotá and Cartagena
Their adventure extended beyond the farms, as they explored the vibrant city of Bogotá. The hospitality of Alexandra Farms shone once again, with warm welcomes from Joey, Teresa, Monica, Natalia, and the entire team.
Later, Pieter and Brita took a domestic flight to Cartagena, a city that left them in awe with its unique blend of Havana’s old-world charm and Miami’s modern vibrancy. Thanks to the generous hospitality of Maria-Paula, they stayed in a stunning beachfront apartment. Their time in Cartagena was filled with unforgettable moments—lunch with their feet in the sand, dinners in hidden outdoor restaurants, and meals bursting with fresh, flavourful ingredients.
A Heartfelt Thank You
Pieter and his partner Brita returned with full hearts and cherished memories. Their journey to Alexandra Farms was not only a chance to witness some of the world’s most beautiful garden roses but also an opportunity to experience the warmth and passion that define the people behind them.
To the breeders, growers, designers, marketers, and wholesalers who made this trip so unforgettable—thank you for sharing your knowledge, your creativity, and your love for garden roses. Together, this wonderfully diverse and passionate group proved that when people are brought together by a shared obsession, something truly magical happens.
